I remember the first time I went on a business trip to China. It was a joint venture the company I worked for had with the Chinese government way back in 1989.

As I entered the conference room with our Chinese counterparts, they were all dressed in Mao jackets. Of course, there were interpreters in the room because the Chinese didn’t speak English and we sure didn’t speak Chinese. It was a very ostentatious gathering. Very formal and quite intimidating for a westerner.
